Job Summary
The Online Learning Project Librarian will be responsible for providing research and reference services, creating digital learning objectives, and promoting online library services and instruction. This is a 3-year contract position that offers a competitive salary and the opportunity to work with a distinguished collection of theological materials in a beautiful 60,000 square-foot facility. As a member of the Pitts Reference, Instruction, and Outreach team, you will have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the Candler School of Theology students, staff, and faculty, as well as the broader community.
Key Responsibilities
- Staff the library reference desk and virtual reference services for 10-15 hours per week and conduct research consultations with patrons
- Participate in the library's instructional design and online programming
- Create and maintain LibGuides of curated electronically available items
- Participate in professional and scholarly associations relevant to reference and outreach in an academic library
- Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and skills in areas related to Pitts' patron needs, especially digital needs, and maintain general knowledge of current trends in the relevant disciplines, higher education, academic libraries, and information and educational technology
- Develop expertise in library best practices for serving distance patrons
- Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge of online instruction design
- Participate in library and campus committees as appropriate for service purposes
- Establish and maintain relationships with institutional and community partners
Essential Qualifications
- Master's degree in theology, religious studies, or related discipline
- Excellent organization and project management skills
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Universal Design and online pedagogy
- Familiarity and experience working with integrated library systems and standard research tools in the humanities
- Experience conducting or supporting research in theology, religious studies, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated teaching experience
- Understanding of current research practices in theology or religious studies as well as information and digital literacy trends
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in theology, religious studies, or related discipline
- Master's degree in library and information studies, instructional design, or equivalent
- Demonstrated success teaching in higher education
- Experience conducting advanced research in theology or religious studies
- Demonstrated expertise with digital tools used in higher education
- Experience with SpringShare SaaS, or similar platform
