Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time, non-tenure-line Instructor/Assistant Teaching Professor of Special Education to teach courses in Special Education, advise students, engage in scholarship and professional growth, and provide service to the College, community, and the profession. This is a 36-week appointment for the fall and spring semesters, with an August 2024 start date. As an Instructor/Assistant Teaching Professor of Special Education, you will play a critical role in shaping the educational experiences of our students and contributing to the ongoing growth and development of our Elementary and Early Childhood Education program.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach courses in Special Education, including special education law, assessment in inclusive settings, Applied Behavior Analysis, and evidence-based methods for instruction in reading, mathematics, and writing
- Advise students and provide mentorship and guidance in their academic and professional pursuits
- Engage in scholarship and professional growth, including staying current with best practices and research in Special Education
- Provide service to the College, community, and the profession, including participating in student recruitment and retention activities and program assessment
- Contribute to the ongoing growth and development of the Elementary and Early Childhood Education program
Qualifications
Candidates for the position at the rank of Instructor will possess a master's degree, while candidates for the position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor will possess a terminal/doctorate degree at the time of appointment. All candidates must have expertise in Special Education and a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring students.
Essential Qualifications
- Master's or terminal/doctorate degree in Special Education or a related field
- Expertise in Special Education, including special education law, assessment in inclusive settings, Applied Behavior Analysis, and evidence-based methods for instruction in reading, mathematics, and writing
- Strong teaching, advising, and mentoring skills
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff in a dynamic and supportive learning environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching courses in Special Education
- Experience advising and mentoring students
- Involvement in scholarship and professional growth in Special Education
- Familiarity with trauma-based pedagogy and autism
