Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Academic Instructor to join our team at the Maui Satellite Job Corps Center in Makawao, Hawaii. As an Academic Instructor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality education to students in various subjects, including HSD/HSE. You will work closely with our Educational Services Manager to develop and implement lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide guidance and support to students. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction to students in designated areas of instruction, including HSD/HSE, in accordance with approved curricula.
  • Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems, or study habits, and coordinate with counselors and staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
  • Develop and prepare lessons in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines, recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials, and maintain an organized and clean training environment conducive to learning.
  • Participate on student assessment panels, prepare required documentation and evaluations, administer and correct tests, and maintain progress and attendance reports, including required CIS updates.
  • Control the use of equipment and supplies, recommend purchases, and develop and conduct enrichment programs as assigned.
  • Utilize workplace language and behavior expectations in the classroom, relate academic skills to career training and workplace requirements, and participate in student behavior management programs.
  • Assist in developing community linkages and volunteers for academic training/tutoring, participate in student employability programs and activities, and contribute to the overall success of the program.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, valid teaching certificate in the state of Hawaii, or passing scores on the PRAXIS exams.
  • One year of related experience, preferably in teaching or education.
  • Experience working with youth, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and computer proficiency.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Experience with online teaching platforms is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the essential qualifications, we prefer candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Master's degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience teaching HSD/HSE or a related subject.
