About the Role
As a Data Scientist within our Scientific Affairs team, you'll be responsible for conducting sophisticated data analysis to address key business questions and drive informed decision-making. Reporting to the Chief, Clinical Information Science, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver actionable insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources. Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis and Insights: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms, analyze and interpret results, and help shape research methodologies.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with various members of the Walgreens Clinical Trial colleagues to deliver meaningful insights from real-world data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests.
- Data Management: Clean, transform, and store data into an integrated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization.
- Advanced Analytics: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/RWD and uncover new insights into patient populations and treatment outcomes.
- Research and Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities, applying advanced analytics and tools to resolve scientific questions from biopharmaceutical companies.
- Study Design and Execution: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE studies and analyses.
- Data Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for internal and external utilization.
- Vendor Management: Conduct a reasonable level of due diligence on new real-world data suppliers/vendors and drive RWD quality assessments to inform investment decisions.
Essential Capabilities
- Statistical Analysis: Experience in designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data.
- Data Handling: Experience handling large datasets from multiple data sources and working with protected patient health information.
- Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI insight tools.
Preferred Capabilities
- Advanced Degree: PhD or graduate degree in statistics/biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Healthcare IT: Skill in EMR/Health IT, disease registries, and insurance claims databases.
- Clinical Data Standards: Familiarity with clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD9/10/ReadCode).
- Regulatory Compliance: Experience with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR).
- Innovative Data Sources: Experience working with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and/or arrangements.
- Advanced Analytics: Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data, computational statistics.
- Continuous Learning: Understanding of statistics and machine learning techniques, with the ability to continue self-learning of technical and non-technical skills.
