Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain routine records, including work orders, equipment repairs and maintenance, chemical applications, irrigation schedules, and overtime assignments.
  • Operate a variety of custodial equipment, such as floor buffers and vacuum cleaners, and power hand tools, including tractors, power mowers, and weed eaters.
  • Perform general grounds maintenance work, including watering and mowing lawns, blowing and sweeping sidewalks and parking lots, and maintaining athletic fields.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, including tractors and mowers, to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Respond to emergency calls outside of normal work hours and perform specialized grounds keeping tasks as needed.
  • Utilize independent judgment to perform grounds maintenance and activities, and monitor campus for necessary maintenance work.
  • Mix and apply chemicals to control and eradicate weeds, insects, and other pests, and perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

  • Hold a Black Seal License and a Pesticide License.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of previous custodial and/or groundskeeper work-related experience.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent training experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Exhibit integrity, good morals, character, and initiative, and demonstrate interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a school setting or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of custodial and grounds maintenance best practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills and Competencies

To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies:

  • Physical stamina to perform custodial and grounds duties, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate custodial and grounds equipment.
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform custodial and grounds duties.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
