About the Role

As a Long-Term Substitute Elementary Teacher at Toquam Magnet Elementary School, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of our Grade 5 students. Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Excellence: Demonstrate facility in the skills of reading, writing, and mathematics, and plan instruction to achieve selected objectives.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  • Classroom Management: Organize time, space, materials, and equipment to create a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Student Support: Help students develop positive self-concepts and facilitate their independence as learners.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Effectively assess student needs and progress, and adjust instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Technology Integration: Utilize various educational technologies, including Operating Systems, Office suites, Presentation Software, Spreadsheets, and Student Information Systems, to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Meet professional responsibilities, including continuing growth and development, and foster cooperative involvement with parents and the community.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • A valid Connecticut teacher certificate in 013-Elementary, K-6; 305-Elementary, 1-6.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching the subject area(s) and/or instructional levels targeted.
  • Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and educational assistants.
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrated ability to learn and implement various educational technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Dual certification in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or ESL.
  • Experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of $155 per day for certified candidates, with a daily rate of $105 for non-certified candidates for the first 30 days, increasing to $155 per day thereafter.
