Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Technology Supply Chain Management (SCM) Category Manager to join our team as a trusted advisor for managing a portfolio of related technology suppliers, particularly for the Air Operations groups, including Flight Operations, Network Operations Control, and Inflight Operations. As a Category Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting complex and high-value contracts, working with cross-functional teams to ensure suppliers successfully meet business objectives. Your expertise will help maximize supplier value and mitigate risk by leading strategic sourcing events, negotiations, and drafting contracts. You will also serve as a consultant in Air Operations Technology spend and supplier-related issues, mentoring junior-level colleagues and driving the future of Southwest Airlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise technology stakeholders on common risk elements of supplier agreements and programs or projects
  • Assist leaders with the decision-making process by encouraging competitive evaluation of new suppliers through the RFP process
  • Create and implement negotiation strategies
  • Manage supplier communications and coordinate contract negotiation and strategic sourcing events
  • Collaborate with internal customers to gain a solid understanding of business requirements
  • Educate stakeholders and set expectations to achieve improved business outcomes and align around key positions on issues such as IP, data security, LOL, and SLA development
  • Manage ongoing demand planning with technology and business stakeholders for assigned agreements and renewals
  • Support multiple technical categories across multiple programs and areas of the business
  • Identify potential procurement opportunities through data analysis, category and industry knowledge, current and emerging business models, and discussions with stakeholders
  • Communicate performance and concerns with suppliers that may result in redefining the relationship

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong and diverse skill set in relevant areas, including:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business administration, supply chain management, or a related field
  • Proven experience in technology supply chain management, contract management, or a related field
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve business objectives

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a related field, such as an MBA or a master's degree in supply chain management
  • Certifications in supply chain management, such as the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)
  • Experience working in the aviation industry or a related field
  • Knowledge of industry-specific software and systems, such as procurement management systems or contract management software
