Job Summary

We're seeking an experienced Media Performance Engineer II, Distribution to join our Media Experience, Performance Engineering - Distribution Team. As a key member of our team, you'll play a critical role in optimizing playback performance quality and shaping the future of media technology. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to analyze product health, mitigate escalations, and develop solutions to improve playback experiences. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of our streaming services and make a tangible impact on our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and Optimize Playback Performance: Utilize internal and third-party tooling to analyze the health of streaming products and identify areas for improvement.
  • Mitigate Escalations: Act as a first responder to internal and external delivery escalations, executing mitigation steps to limit windows of impact.
  • Curate Documentation: Develop and maintain documentation for issue tracking and impact analysis.
  • Manage Distribution Policies: Use internal tooling to manage distribution policies and ensure optimal performance.
  • Support Live Events and Feature Releases: Provide critical support for live events, high-profile content sunrises, and feature releases.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with development, operations, and engineering teams to ensure seamless playback experiences.
  • Lead and Mentor: Provide hands-on leadership and mentoring to junior engineers within the Media Experience organization.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • 3+ Years of Experience: 3 years of experience in streaming media, content distribution, or video technology.
  • Live Video Streaming Systems: 3 years of hands-on experience with Live Video Streaming Systems, including encoding, distribution, and playback.
  • Content Delivery Life Cycle: Understanding of the live and VOD content delivery life cycle – “glass to glass”.
  • Production Environment: Experience in a production environment, preferably in a high-availability, large-scale setup on AWS or another public cloud.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a team.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Basic quantitative, analytical, problem-solving, debugging, and decision-making skills.
  • OTT and Mobile Devices: Exposure to interfacing with OTT and mobile devices (Roku, Game Consoles, Apple TV, Android, iOS, etc.).
  • Network-Level Tools: Awareness of network-level tools; ThousandEyes, Kentik, Catchpoint.
  • Data Visualization Tools: Familiarity with data visualization tools; Grafana, Datadog, Kibana, Splunk.
  • CDNs and Network Operations: Basic understanding of CDNs and their relation to network operations, transit, and peering.
  • Documentation and Ticketing Systems: Exposure to designing and maintaining documentation, and familiarity with ticketing and tracking systems like JIRA and Confluence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Live and VOD Video Streaming Systems: Exposure to Live and VOD Video Streaming Systems, with a basic understanding of encoding, distribution, and playback.

  • Competitive Salary: A competitive salary range of $86,300 to $115,700 per year, depending on experience and location.
  • Bonus and Long-Term Incentive Units: A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
