Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a 4th Grade Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and providing individualized assistance to students. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting students with instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher
  • Maintaining a positive, focused classroom environment that promotes learning and social growth
  • Conducting small group instruction and one-on-one instructional sessions to provide literacy and math support
  • Monitoring student progress, identifying areas of need, and developing strategies to support student success
  • Providing substitute coverage, escorting students, and supervising students during recess and lunch
  • Assisting teaching staff in the implementation of IEP/504/SRBI plans and ensuring classroom safety standards are met at all times

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Basic knowledge and experience with job-related computer hardware and software applications
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds, with reasonable accommodations made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

While not required, the following preferred qualifications and experience will be considered an asset:

  • Previous experience working as a teaching assistant or in a related role
  • Knowledge of Lexia/ST platforms and experience with instructional technology
  • Ability to speak multiple languages, with a focus on supporting diverse student populations
  • Experience working with students with special needs and developing strategies to support inclusive education
