Key Responsibilities
As a Police Officer in the City of Doral Police Department, you will be responsible for:
- Patrolling the City of Doral area in a radio-equipped car or motorcycle to preserve law and order
- Responding to a variety of calls that require several intervention approaches, ranging from personal counseling techniques to the use of physical or deadly force
- Conducting preliminary investigations, locating evidence, obtaining information from witnesses, and completing reports
- Making arrests, escorting prisoners to jail, and testifying in court concerning work activities
- Serving Criminal and Metropolitan writs, conducting search and surveillance to determine the whereabouts of persons to be served
- Assisting in departmental programs and cooperating with other agencies in dealing with social, medical, and psychological problems
- Participating in underwater search and recovery missions, mobile crime laboratory investigations, undercover surveillance, and other specialized operations
- Directing traffic at local schools and patrolling local schools and communities as needed
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must:
- Be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Florida or currently attending the Florida Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy)
- Possess a Basic Recruit Certificate of Compliance from the State of Florida or its equivalent
- Have completed probation with a Florida law enforcement agency and have one year of police experience
- Be a U.S. citizen and have a high school diploma or GED
- Possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
- Be at least 19 years old and not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement
- Have not received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States
- Possess good moral character and meet minimum County medical standards
Physical Abilities Test (PAA) Requirements
All applicants are required to pass the PAA test, which consists of:
- A timed mile run
- Push-ups (1-minute time limit)
- Sit-ups (1-minute time limit)
- A timed 300-meter run
Background Investigation and Screening Process
As part of our comprehensive screening process, all applicants will undergo a thorough background investigation, which includes:
- Pre-employment testing, including a PAA test, drug test, polygraph, and psychological test
- Physical evaluation
- Background investigation, including a personal history questionnaire, previous employment data, credit check, education and certifications verification, and fingerprint check
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To succeed as a Police Officer in the City of Doral Police Department, you must possess:
- Knowledge of state statutes, local ordinances, and departmental regulations
- Knowledge of law enforcement methods and procedures
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability to develop skill in the use and care of firearms
- Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
- Ability to enforce the law firmly, impartially, and with respect for individual rights
