We're now seeking an experienced and passionate Arts & Enrichment Instructor to join our team on a part-time basis.

About the Role

As an Arts & Enrichment Instructor with South Suburban Parks and Recreation, you will have the opportunity to teach a variety of arts and enrichment classes to participants of all ages in both group and individual settings. Your creativity and expertise will be instrumental in developing and delivering engaging course curricula that span fine arts, performing arts, drama, dance, music, science, writing, culinary arts, travel, and continuing education, among other areas. This role also involves teaching specialized classes, birthday parties, and special events offsite, making it an ideal position for those who enjoy varied and dynamic work environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach arts and enrichment classes to participants of all ages, adapting instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Develop and implement engaging course curricula that align with program goals and participant interests.
  • Provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity and participation.
  • Teach specialized arts and enrichment classes, birthday parties, and special events at various locations, including offsite venues.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with program participants, parents, and staff through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Supervise children and participants in a variety of situations, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Stay organized, manage time effectively, and be prepared for classes and events.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance teaching skills and stay current with industry trends.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Be insurable by the District carrier at the onset and for the duration of employment.
  • For Arts & Enrichment Instructor I: Have at least 1 year of teaching experience.
  • For Arts & Enrichment Instructor II: Have at least 3 years of teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

While not mandatory, the following qualifications and skills are highly preferred:

  • Prior experience teaching art and/or enrichment classes.
  • Current AED/CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Knowledge of child care programming, recreation principles, safety and emergency first-aid procedures, program management, and customer service principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
  • A highly motivated and organized individual who can take direction well and work independently.
