Job Summary
As an Assistant Rural Carrier, you will be an integral part of our team, responsible for providing excellent customer service, selling stamps, processing incoming mail, sorting, distributing, and performing other clerical duties as needed. You will also have the opportunity to work directly with the public, assisting customers with general mailing needs, such as change of addresses, mail holds, or post office box services. This position offers excellent potential for career growth within our organization, with various higher positions available throughout the United States Postal Service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sell stamps, postage, and other postal products to customers
- Process incoming mail, including sorting, distributing, and performing other clerical duties as needed
- Assist customers with general mailing needs, such as change of addresses, mail holds, or post office box services
- Operate postal equipment, including scanners, printers, and stamp machines
- Perform various clerical functions, such as filing documents, answering phones, taking messages, data entry, scanning, and copying
- Provide expert advice on matters relating to mailing, such as registering a business entity or getting mailbox services
Requirements:
Essential Qualifications:
- Be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old or above
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods
- Have a valid driver's license (may be required for some positions)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in customer service, sales, or a related field
- Knowledge of postal regulations and procedures
- Experience with electronic mail management software and other technology
Skills and Competencies:
To be successful as an Assistant Rural Carrier, you will need to possess excellent communication and customer service skills, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and be willing to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
