Job Summary
The Assistant Store Manager is a critical role that assists in maintaining a clean, well-organized store with a customer-first focus. Under the direction of the Store Manager, this role supervises employees, manages merchandise, completes paperwork, and prepares deposits. The Assistant Store Manager also handles stocking and cashiering, along with other duties to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction, while protecting company assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Exceptional Customer Service: Greet and assist customers, operate cash registers, and itemize purchases to ensure a positive shopping experience.
- Store Operations: Open and close the store at least twice a week, manage merchandise, and maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Employee Supervision: Assist Store Manager with employee scheduling, training, safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with policies.
- Merchandise Management: Follow processes to manage merchandise, including receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking, and rotating products.
- Financial Management: Ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, and adherence to cash control procedures.
- Leadership: Authorize refunds and overrides, count tills, and deposit money at the bank. Manage the store in the Store Manager's absence.
Essential Qualifications
Skills Required
- Strong Communication Skills: Interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills to effectively interact with customers, employees, and management.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to address various situations and make sound decisions.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Mathematical Calculations: Proficient in performing mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages).
- Cash Register Functions: Competent in cash register functions and generating reports.
- Safety Control Practices: Knowledge of cash handling, facility, and safety control practices.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: Preferred.
- Retail Experience: One year of retail experience with six months of supervisory experience is preferred.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands: Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling. Regular handling of merchandise and equipment.
- Lifting: Lifting up to 40 pounds regularly, occasionally up to 55 pounds.
- Climbing: Occasional climbing (step ladder) up to six feet.
- Environment: Fast-paced environment with moderate noise. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Driving: Driving for bank deposits and store management meetings as needed.
