Job Overview: Customer Advocate Phone Specialist
As a Customer Advocate Phone Specialist, you will be the primary point of contact for our customers, providing exceptional service and support via phone, written communication, and occasionally in-person interactions. Your role will be crucial in resolving customer inquiries, addressing concerns, and providing information about our health insurance products and services. You will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism, adhere to our quality and compliance standards, and demonstrate a deep understanding of our products and services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, research, process, resolve, and respond to customer inquiries and correspondence in a timely and professional manner.
- Explain contract benefits, changes in coverage, eligibility, claims, BCBSAZ programs, provider networks, and other related information to customers.
- Handle a high volume of health insurance-related customer calls and correspondence daily, typically answering 40+ calls per day.
- Meet quality, quantity, and timeliness standards to achieve individual and department performance goals.
- Document and record facts regarding inquiries and correspondence by updating BCBSAZ files and systems.
- Demonstrate and maintain current working knowledge of required BCBSAZ systems, procedures, forms, and manuals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of external Customer Service Experience.
- Intermediate skill in using office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, scanners, and telephones.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
- Ability to navigate multiple computer systems and software programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the health insurance industry.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills.
- Previous experience working in a call center or customer service environment.
Skills and Competencies:
To succeed in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize with customers and provide clear, concise information. You should be highly organized, able to multitask, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in using technology, including computer systems and software, is also essential.
