Key Responsibilities

As the Director of Graduate Affairs and Academic Programs, you will be responsible for:

  • Administering the Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology Graduate Program, in collaboration with faculty leaders.
  • Recruiting and advising graduate students, providing guidance on academic and professional development.
  • Managing annual budgeting and budget management, generating funding and program statistics reports.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to increase diversity and promote an inclusive climate in the program.
  • Contributing to the department's teaching mission, including teaching courses and developing curriculum.
  • Coordinating student relations and activities, ensuring a positive and supportive experience for all graduate students.
  • Engaging in professional development opportunities, staying current with best practices in graduate education and academic administration.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • A Ph.D. in a related area, such as biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or a closely related field.
  • Experience mentoring or advising graduate students, with a strong understanding of their academic and professional needs.
  • Experience with graduate admissions, recruiting, and administration, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • A demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community, with a strong understanding of the importance of equity and inclusion in academic settings.
  • Experience teaching at least one course as either the lead or assistant instructor, with a strong passion for education and student learning.
