About the Role: Manager, Fleet Operations
The Manager, Fleet Operations, is a pivotal leadership position that oversees a group of machines within our business unit. This role is multifaceted, requiring a strong blend of technical knowledge, leadership acumen, and strategic thinking. As a Manager, Fleet Operations, you will be responsible for driving service excellence, ensuring the highest standards of equipment maintenance, crew competence, and operational productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Talent Development:
- Lead talent and performance management for all field leaders on assigned machines.
- Monitor and reinforce compliance with training programs and provide feedback on curriculum and operational procedures.
- Oversee promotions, advancements, salary adjustments, and disciplinary actions.
- Safety and Operational Excellence:
- Maintain fleet equipment in peak operating condition (at least 98% availability) by ensuring compliance with operating and safety practices and preventive maintenance programs.
- Oversee and direct improvements or corrective actions based on machine audits, incidents, production reports, and customer requirements.
- Conduct scheduled field visits to assess compliance, audit safety practices, verify product quality, and gauge customer satisfaction.
- Business and Financial Management:
- Budget and forecast for overhaul and large-scale activities for assigned machines.
- Monitor, evaluate, and explain Profit and Loss Statements for fleet equipment.
- Execute operating plans to attain short and long-term financial and operational goals.
- Communications:
- Develop and maintain relationships with key customer contacts to manage service and quality expectations.
- Organize customer and crew joint meetings to deliver operational, safety, and corporate messaging.
- Interpret and translate documents into operational practices to educate employees.
Essential Qualifications
To excel in this role, you must possess:
- An Associate Degree with Technical Certification.
- 7+ years of experience in fleet operations with a deep understanding of its functions.
- 1+ year of experience in managing multiple work sites with a focus on people, safety, speed, performance, and reliability.
- 2+ years of experience in making sound business decisions aligned with company values and vision.
- 3+ years of experience in delivering against customer expectations in a high sense of urgency environment with a safety-first approach.
- 1+ year of experience in leading and motivating teams to drive employee engagement.
- 1+ year of experience in managing 24/7 field operations.
- All Railroad Specific Certifications, Loram Operating Rules Certification, and required safety training.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, having:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Engineering can be a significant plus.
- Experience with LMW's processes, products, services, and customer relationships is highly desirable.
