Key Responsibilities
- Assist students in achieving their maximum potential by providing individual and group counseling services, academic support, and guidance on career and post-secondary options
- Develop and implement proactive prevention programs to promote positive relationships, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills among students
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff members to identify students with greatest need for intervention and provide targeted support services
- Coordinate the Intervention and Referral Services team and assist in the submission of a yearly data report
- Provide educational resources and informative materials to parents and the school community on topics such as bullying prevention, substance abuse, and mental health
- Assist with course selections, scheduling, and post-secondary planning, including college applications and career guidance
- Conduct conferences with staff and parents, and provide in-service programs and workshops on topics relevant to student support and development
Essential Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey Educational Services Certificate as Counselor in Guidance or Student Personnel Services
- Experience working with a secondary student population, preferably in a guidance counseling or related role
- Strong knowledge of counseling theories, practices, and techniques, including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other staff members
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Adequate training and experience in bullying and violence prevention, substance abuse prevention, and mental health counseling
- Knowledge of NCAA clearinghouse procedures and requirements
- Experience with crisis management and response, including participation in School and District Crisis Management and 504 Committee Teams
- Familiarity with New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and Life and Career Standards
