About the Role
We're looking for a talented and experienced Virginia-certified Special Education Teacher to teach a 13-year-old boy with a learning disability and ADHD. This part-time online position requires teaching all core subjects, with a primary focus on English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics, three days a week for three hours a day, at times convenient between 10am and 6pm. The successful candidate will be paid $40/hour, offering a competitive remuneration package for the right professional.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and facilitate all core subjects to an 8th-grade homeschooled student, primarily focusing on ELA and math, adapting to the student's 6th-grade level in most subjects.
- Identify the educational needs of the student and develop or modify existing curricula to meet those needs, functioning as an IEP (Individualized Education Program).
- Tutor and support the student in understanding and completing assignments, ensuring progress and understanding.
- Collaborate with the family to choose and implement an appropriate curriculum that suits the student's learning style and needs.
- Review the student's progress regularly with the parents, providing updates and insights into their development.
- Utilize online teaching platforms such as Zoom to deliver high-quality virtual education.
- Employ patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement to engage the student, motivate learning, and help them stay focused.
Essential Qualifications
- Virginia state teacher certification.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Education or a related field.
- At least three years of professional teaching experience in a Special Education or inclusion classroom setting.
- Experience in teaching students with learning disabilities and ADHD.
- Ability to teach all subjects, especially ELA and math, up to 6th-grade level.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with parents.
- Proficiency in using online video conferencing tools for virtual teaching.
- Willingness to participate in remote interviews via live video chat.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with homeschooling or online education platforms.
- Knowledge of various curricula and the ability to adapt or create customized educational plans.
