Position Overview
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, and retirement savings. As a Retirement Benefits Counselor, you will work in our Member Services Call Center, providing one-on-one counseling and education to our members on retirement benefits, statutory provisions, and legislative updates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a liaison between all sections of the Retirement Division, including payroll, disability, and death processing, and our members.
- Respond to inbound calls and emails from members, employers, and agencies, providing expert guidance on retirement benefits and resolving complex issues.
- Explain and apply interpretation of laws, codes, and procedural guidelines related to retirement benefits.
- Assess individual situations, apply current statute regulations, and communicate appropriate decisions to involved parties.
- Educate, counsel, and advise members on benefit program options, ensuring they understand their retirement benefits and can make informed decisions.
- Provide technical assistance to agencies and HR professionals regarding various retirement systems.
- Assist in training new personnel through our buddy program and side-by-side monitoring.
- Participate in process improvement assignments and team-building exercises to enhance our services and operations.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Two years of experience related to retirement benefits, customer service, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to learn different systems and databases quickly and efficiently.
- Excellent customer service skills, with patience and empathy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience interpreting and communicating employee benefits.
- Experience in a call center or customer service environment.
- Knowledge of retirement benefits, statutes, and regulations.
