About the Role

As a Software Engineer on the MST team, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of software tools that drive engineering simulation and analysis services for Disney operations. This role involves working on complex systems level simulations, Software-In-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) platforms, and multi-agent simulations. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team and engage in both development and user support activities in a remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test software applications for simulation and analysis services, working closely with internal engineering and creative partners.
  • Partner with various teams to identify requirements and use cases for new applications, ensuring that solutions meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Create detailed documentation for software applications, catering to both developers and users, to facilitate understanding and effective utilization.
  • Provide user support, troubleshooting, and resolving bugs in deployed software and models, ensuring seamless operation and minimizing downtime.
  • Leverage your expertise in computer hardware and software to inform purchasing decisions and system designs, optimizing performance and efficiency.
  • Analyze results from simulations, recommending improvements to system design and contributing to the continuous enhancement of our services.
  • Develop and review detailed mechanical and system-level simulations using various software tools, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Conduct site visits to under-construction and operating attractions to gain a deeper understanding of their operating principles and gather measurements.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should possess:

  • 1-4 years of experience in programming, with a strong foundation in C# and object-oriented design principles.
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and languages to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with partners and users.
  • A demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and assess software errors, developing solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Experience using engineering software and development environments, such as Visual Studio.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices, including scrum and sprint planning.
  • Understanding of source control tools, such as Git, and continuous integration tools, like GitLab CI.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following skills and experiences are highly desirable:

  • Familiarity with engineering within the entertainment industry, bringing a unique understanding of the sector's specific challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience with Ride and Show Control Systems, as well as programming and troubleshooting PLC hardware.
  • Knowledge of third-party analysis software, such as MathWorks: Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow; Wireshark; Rockwell Automation: Studio 5000.
  • Experience with scripting languages, including Python, and development experience using game engines, such as Unity3D or Unreal.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and/or protocol design, enhancing your ability to develop effective solutions.
