Job Highlights

  • Compensation: Competitive salary ($85,000-$105,000 annual base pay range) + annual performance bonus
  • Start Date: Immediate openings available

Primary Responsibilities

As a Senior Systems Engineer - Systems Monitoring & Response, you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and Alert Management:
    • Continuously monitor the performance, availability, and security of critical systems, applications, and network infrastructure.
    • Set up and configure monitoring tools (such as Site24x7, Managed Engine, PagerDuty, Azure Log Monitor, Azure Sentinel, or similar) to proactively detect anomalies, performance bottlenecks, and security threats.
    • Respond to alerts promptly, investigate root causes, and take corrective actions to prevent service disruptions.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external MSPs to ensure timely resolution of incidents.
  • Incident Response:
    • Act as the first point of contact for system-related incidents and outages.
    • Follow established incident response procedures to mitigate the impact of disruptions.
    • Escalate incidents to appropriate teams and provide clear communication throughout the resolution process.
    • Document incidents, root cause analyses, and remediation steps.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Identify areas for system performance improvement and propose enhancements.
    • Work closely with system administrators, network engineers, and application developers to optimize system configurations and resource utilization.
    • Implement performance tuning strategies to enhance system responsiveness and reduce latency.
  • Security Monitoring:
    • Monitor security logs, intrusion detection systems, and vulnerability assessment tools.
    • Investigate and respond to security incidents, including unauthorized access attempts, malware outbreaks, and data breaches.
    • Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to implement security best practices and maintain compliance with industry standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate documentation related to system monitoring processes, incident response procedures, and system configurations.
    • Generate regular reports on system performance, uptime, and incident trends.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to improve system reliability and resilience to CIO/CISO and stakeholders.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in systems monitoring, incident response, and IT operations.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in monitoring tools (e.g., Site24x7, Managed Engine, PagerDuty, Azure Log Monitor, Azure Sentinel, or similar).
    • Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows).
    • Familiarity with network protocols, firewalls, and security best practices.
    • Scripting skills (PowerShell) for automation.
    • Experience with Windows, DNS, Active Directory, AAD, M365, Azure, AVD, WVD, TCP/IP, Networking, VMware, Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL, ITSM, Cloud-Managed PC, O365, VoIP, Log Management, Storage Management, Capacity Management, Monitoring and Alarms, Automations, APM, RUM, New Relic, Pager Duty, Log Monitor, Sentinel, Oracle OEM.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong sense of ownership and urgency when escalating active alerts.
    • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
    • Effective communication skills (in person, in writing, and over the telephone) in English.
    • Ability to work outside regular business hours on an exceptional basis.
    • Strong analytical, investigative methodology, and problem-solving skills.
    • Adaptability and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ITIL (Information Technology Information Library) Foundation Certification.
  • Azure Certification(s).
  • Some knowledge of systems engineering or application development.
