As a Senior Data Engineer in the Cyclone Team, a multi-product engineering group within Roundel, Target's Digital Media Marketing division, you will play a critical role in curating and enhancing data assets used by Marketing teams across the organization. Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize your technical expertise to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specific areas of the technology space.
  • Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, considering factors such as feasibility within Target's technical environment, viability, and cost of ownership.
  • Design, develop, and implement data pipelines and data stages, ensuring high-performance, scalability, and security.
  • Lead code reviews, design reviews, testing, and troubleshooting exercises at the application level, promoting best practices and design decisions.
  • Participate in routine and non-routine development, automation, and deployment exercises, ensuring efficient execution with design and operational requirements met.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to others, resolving complex and severe technical issues.
  • Install data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use.

Essential Qualifications

  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in application and data pipeline development.
  • 5+ years of experience working with large volumes and variety of data in a production environment.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, Spark Streaming, Oozie, and Hive.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Scala, Python, Java.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following monitoring tools: Kibana, Grafana.
  • Skill in delivering high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure solutions with extensive impact.
  • Experience writing and organizing code using multiple scripts, including distributed programming.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in performance tuning data pipelines and data stages.
  • Experience in automated testing and various testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit).
  • Experience integrating with REST APIs and cloud technologies (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services).
  • Knowledge of streaming solutions (e.g., Kafka).
  • Exposure to containerization (e.g., Docker).
  • Exposure to DevOps tools, processes, and culture (e.g., Drone, Jenkins, Git).
  • Experience working with a source control tool (e.g., Git).
  • Openness to Agile methodologies and frameworks.
