About the Role
As a Remote Data Entry Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the Google Operations team, which is responsible for tracking the contemporary physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. You will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware (such as servers and their components) and server software (such as Google's Linux cluster). You will also take on the configuration of more complex components, including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols.
An ordinary day in this role will involve manual action and installation of racks, and while it may occasionally be physically demanding, you will be excited to work with infrastructure that is at the forefront of computer technology. You will participate in or lead small project teams on large installations and develop project contingency plans, ensuring that Google's technical infrastructure is always running smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to efforts/initiatives in the deployment, maintenance, and support of cutting-edge and new data center infrastructure
- Participate in complicated troubleshooting and solve critical technical problems, using your expertise and experience to resolve issues quickly and effectively
- Test and troubleshoot new server and network hardware components and designs, ensuring that they meet Google's high standards for performance and reliability
- Install and maintain switches, routers, and other large-scale networking equipment, using your knowledge of networking protocols and hardware to ensure seamless operation
- Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS-associated troubles, using your expertise in Linux-based tools to resolve issues and optimize system performance
Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of experience in the upkeep and tracking of server systems, running systems, or networking protocols, with a strong understanding of computer hardware and software
- Experience in upkeep and tracking of server systems, with a focus on ensuring high availability and reliability
- Experience in operating inside a data center or network operation center environment, with a strong understanding of data center operations and management
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in operating with troubleshooting hardware or network-associated troubles using Linux-based tools, with a strong understanding of Linux operating systems and networking protocols
- Experience operating autonomously and prioritizing multiple competing priorities, with a strong ability to manage your time and workload effectively
- Ability to collaborate and partner with humans and groups to overcome challenges, with a strong focus on teamwork and communication
