Key Responsibilities
- Utilize technical coding expertise to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to outpatient visit types, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies.
- Review medical records thoroughly, leveraging knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and medical terminology to report appropriate diagnoses and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Orders Management Unit (OMU) and other coding divisions to resolve NCD/LCD edit claim failures, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Interpret health record documentation, applying knowledge of coding conventions, instructional notes, and regulatory guidelines to select accurate diagnoses and procedures with a minimum of 95% accuracy.
- Meet established minimum coding productivity and quality standards for each outpatient encounter type, ensuring high-quality coding and reimbursement outcomes.
- Review and analyze dashboards to derive conclusions and identify opportunities for improvement, driving process enhancements and quality initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to supporting the organization's goals.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
- A RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or COC credential, demonstrating expertise in coding and reimbursement.
- Membership with AHIMA or AAPC, showcasing a commitment to staying current with industry developments and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- An Associate's degree in a related field, such as health information management or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 1 year of outpatient coding experience in a healthcare setting, demonstrating a strong understanding of coding practices and reimbursement processes.
