We are seeking a part-time tutor to join our Learning Assistance Resource Center (LARC) team in Kirksville, MO. As a tutor, you will have the opportunity to work with students in math, science, and writing courses, helping them to build confidence, reinforce their knowledge, and develop essential skills. This is a unique chance to make a positive impact on students' lives, while also gaining valuable work experience and skills to enhance your resume.
Key Responsibilities
- Tutor students in academic subject areas, including math, science, and writing courses
- Help organize group study sessions and lead short workshops, tours, and informational visits
- Assist students with computer questions, online programs, and navigating MyMacc
- Complete tutor training and required tutor hours to become CRLA certified
- Help students with study skills and serve as a student role model
- Attend tutor meetings when applicable and assist the Coordinator/Director with special projects
- Adhere to the policies and standards established by the LARC and maintain a professional tutoring environment
- Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with annual inventory, shutdown procedures, and maintaining the LARC neat and tidy
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Have an A or B in the subjects you wish to tutor (math, science, or writing)
- Be personable, approachable, confident, and responsible
- Have a faculty recommendation from MACC
- Complete an interview with the LARC Coordinator and/or Director
- Be willing to commit to tutor training and CRLA certification
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
