Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
- Administer first aid, medication, and specialized medical treatments to students and staff as needed, in accordance with state laws and district policies.
- Conduct mandated screenings, such as vision, dental, and hearing tests, to identify potential health issues and provide referrals for further treatment.
- Assess situations involving student safety and health-related issues, identifying problems, and referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.
- Collaborate with agencies, school safety team members, and other stakeholders to conduct site assessments, identify issues, and provide recommendations for improving safety and accessibility.
- Develop and implement individualized student health care and emergency care plans, providing direction to site personnel and implementing directions from parents and physicians.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including health care plans, agency referrals, accident reports, and immunization records.
- Provide training on various health-related subjects, such as CPR, disaster preparedness, and medication management, to promote a healthy lifestyle and act as a resource to students, teachers, and staff.
- Refer students requiring additional medical attention, providing required follow-up treatment and services, and reporting health and safety issues to assigned administrators and agencies as needed.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a related field.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois.
- Illinois School Nurse licensure preferred.
- First Aid, CPR, AED, vision, and hearing certification.
- Experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and staff.
- Strong technology skills, with proficiency in electronic health records and student management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a school nurse or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws related to student health and safety.
- Experience with health education and promotion, including developing and implementing health-related programs and activities.
