An additional part of Duneland's application process will be for every new applicant to complete a candidate assessment. This will give Duneland the data to understand each candidate's strengths and likelihood to impact student success, so we can make the best choice for our district's needs. Please allow yourself approximately 1 hour to complete. Must complete at one sitting. The assessment will need to be completed in order for you to submit your application. If you have already completed the assessment within a year you will not need to do again.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The individual serves as Teacher of Record and provides virtual or in-person instruction and support for students enrolled in Duneland School Corporation's online school, Northwest Indiana Online School (NWIOS). This individual also administers required state and local on-site assessments (ILEARN, SAT, NWEA, etc.) to identified students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Credential - Valid/active Indiana Teaching License K-12 with Mild Intervention. Experience, knowledge and desire to work with non-traditional and at-risk students in person and in a virtual environment.
• Education - Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements
• Personal Qualities - Highly recommended from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacher
• Understanding of state and federal regulations and laws serving individuals with disabilities (i.e. Article 7, IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADA, etc.)
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Work with identified students or small groups in person and/or virtually for the purpose of reinforcing learning skills, concepts, and study skills to successfully complete coursework.
• Plan, organize and deliver interventions and support to meet diverse needs of students according to the IEP.
• Hold meetings as determined by the individual student's IEP for identified students..
• Coordinate in-person resource hours weekly for students who need to come on site for brief periods
• Participate in the case conference committee meeting as the student's TOR.
• Create IEPs including measurable goals, services, accommodations and all relevant areas to address unique student needs
• Communicate accommodations directly with Edmentum teachers for students attending Northwest Indiana Online School
• Regularly monitor and manage the implementation of students' IEP
• Monitor student progress in the virtual learning environment
• Monitor and support student progress in regards to graduation requirements
• Inform appropriate and approved teachers and related services providers of their specific responsibilities related to the plan(s) and serves as a resource to all other personnel providing services to assigned students
• Complete Progress Monitoring of IEP goals and provide to parents on a regular basis
• Collect data, present levels and updates from Edmentum
• Follow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation Teacher Evaluation Plan
• Maintain awareness of state standards specified in state law, administrative regulations, or set by the Duneland School Corporation
• Maintain accurate and complete records of student performance
• Communicate with administrators and coordinators about special education issues and trends
• Confer with parents and colleagues to address student academic and behavioral needs
• Administer assessments as required by the state of Indiana and the corporation
• Interact with colleagues, parents, and students in a manner that is professional and reflect the expectations of leadership within the school and corporation
• Follow all expectations described in IDEA, Article 7, the Duneland School Corporation's Teacher Agreement and employee handbook
• Follow all procedures and expectations established by the building administration and /or corporation leadership
• Monitor and supervise students when they are onsite for assessments or other learning activities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships with all publics
• Knowledge/awareness of assistive technology tools preferred
• Ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work
• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes of the normal day and expectations
• Proficiency in the use of technology for instruction and record keeping
• Proficiency in the use of and the ability to learn required instructional software, ( i.e. Microsoft Office, Canvas, Skyward, Google Docs)
• Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
• Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisors and district administrators

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is protected from outside weather conditions. There are no environmental hazards indicated for this position.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all instructional equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers and software, printers, projectors, smart boards, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.
Hours: This is a part time position with flexible hours not to exceed 20 hours a week. Predominantly, the work will be conducted virtually except as requested to provide in person instruction, administer standardized assessments, attend meetings or attend professional development.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
