Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail‑oriented Senior Tax Consulting Specialist to join our nationwide tax team on a fully remote, home‑based basis. In this pivotal role, you will partner with tax managers and cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant filing of state and local tax obligations across all applicable jurisdictions. You will also play a key role in identifying tax planning opportunities, improving process efficiencies, and staying ahead of evolving tax regulations.

This is an immediate‑hire opportunity with competitive compensation ranging from $61,500 to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus a comprehensive total rewards package that includes health, dental, vision, retirement, and flexible work‑life benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance Execution: Prepare, review, and file state, local, and premium tax returns on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, ensuring adherence to statutory deadlines and internal controls.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct in‑depth research on complex transactions, assess tax impacts, and provide clear recommendations to senior tax leadership.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate existing tax workflows, propose enhancements, and implement best‑practice solutions to improve accuracy and reduce cycle time.
  • Tax Calendar Management: Maintain an up‑to‑date tax calendar, monitor upcoming filing obligations, and coordinate with internal teams to meet all external reporting dates.
  • Regulatory Communication: Respond to tax authority notices, inquiries, and audits with well‑documented, timely responses.
  • Data Integrity & Reconciliation: Assist with month‑end and quarter‑end closing activities, reconcile tax accounts, and support the preparation of estimated tax payments.
  • Tax Planning Support: Identify strategic tax planning opportunities, collaborate with finance and business units, and contribute to long‑term tax risk mitigation strategies.
  • Technology Enablement: Leverage tax software, ERP systems, and data analytics tools to streamline reporting and enhance data accuracy.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of hands‑on experience in state and local tax compliance, premium tax, or related tax functions within a large, complex organization.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of tax concepts, including income tax, premium tax, and non‑income state taxes; comfortable navigating tax research tools (e.g., CCH, Thomson Reuters).
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to independently conduct intermediate‑level tax analysis, interpret regulatory changes, and assess their impact on business processes.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, capable of presenting complex tax issues to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Self‑Management: Proven track record of thriving in a fully remote environment, demonstrating discipline, organizational skills, and a proactive mindset.
  • Technology Savvy: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), tax software, and familiarity with ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Professional certification such as CPA, EA, or similar credential.
  • Hands‑on experience with multi‑state nexus analysis and sales tax automation tools.
  • Exposure to tax technology initiatives, such as robotic process automation (RPA) or cloud‑based tax solutions.
  • Project management experience, including the ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives without direct supervisory authority.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning through webinars, conferences, or tax‑related courses.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to data entry, calculations, and documentation.
  • Problem‑Solving: Ability to identify root causes, think critically, and propose practical solutions.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating changing tax regulations and evolving business priorities.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with tax managers, finance partners, legal counsel, and external advisors.
