About the Role

As a Waste Specialist, you will be an integral part of our national waste team, responsible for ensuring timely waste disposal, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction while maintaining cost-effectiveness. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately log and update client interaction information into proprietary ALERT systems in a timely manner to ensure seamless tracking of services and resolution.
  • Create profiles of terminal waste and generate labels for client identification purposes, ensuring accurate and efficient waste management.
  • Provide technical assistance on environmental-related issues, leveraging your expertise to support clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist clients in obtaining necessary paperwork, including SDS, BOL, OSND, photos, and waste inventory from other providers and facilities, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and provide OSHA compliance requirements support, establishing effective relationships with departmental representatives to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Report project status to departmental representatives using various methods, ensuring transparent communication and progress updates.
  • Update internal ALERT systems to reflect current activity and communication with clients, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Manage hazardous and chemical waste programs for clients on-site, following Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other state and federal government agencies' regulations.
  • Coordinate and ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste, maintaining accurate reporting to Federal, State, and local agencies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Execute on-site support services for the entire lifecycle of hazardous materials management programs at client sites, performing chemical inventories, segregating chemicals, and shipping hazardous waste off-site.
  • Characterize, consolidate, pack, and ship hazardous waste for clients per RCRA and DOT regulations, ensuring safe and compliant transportation and disposal.
  • Train clients on proper chemical safety and hazardous waste management, promoting a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Perform periodic field investigations as needed to build and maintain necessary databases, verifying regulatory compliance and ensuring accurate records.
  • Maintain the highest standards of compliance on behalf of clients, providing recommendations for site/terminal employees regarding compliance and ensuring EPA compliance.
  • Review analytical results to ensure compliance with specific state/province requirements, accomplishing site closure and submitting written, electronic, and intake reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Manage proper disposal of all waste, scheduling contractors as needed to identify, repack, sample, and dispose of unknown waste, and auditing all subcontractor work orders/invoices for accuracy.
  • Input correct information into the ALERT system, using correct grammar and spelling, accurate selection of categories, and adding notes or comments pertinent to the contact and/or contact record.
  • Provide and maintain excellent customer service and satisfaction, ensuring timely responses to internal and external calls, emails, and facsimiles, and resolving customer concerns efficiently and completely.
  • Ensure all DOT, OSHA, safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and site-specific safety plans are followed throughout disposal activities, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, clients, regulatory officials, and colleagues through written and verbal communication, ensuring transparent and efficient communication.
  • Maintain professional competency in all aspects of the job, performing other job-related duties as required, and contributing to the success of the team.

Essential Qualifications

  • 3+ years of applicable industry experience in environmental science, waste management, or a related field.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Environmental Science, Chemistry, Waste Management, Health, Safety, Emergency Management, or a similar major, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Direct hazardous material response experience is required, with HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT, OSHA training certificates.
  • Experience with RCRA, OSHA, and DOT regulations, with a strong understanding of environmental laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work 8-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with a flexible schedule to accommodate client needs.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment background check, with a clean driving record and ability to travel as needed.
  • Strong time management skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and data entry skills (40 WPM), with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate, well-versed in standard Office Word and spreadsheet programs, as well as software used by ERTS, with the ability to learn new systems and technologies.
  • Able to orchestrate large volumes of data while meeting critical deadlines, remaining calm and confident during stressful situations, and maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Must be a team player, working to accomplish common goals in the department, with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
  • Physical strength and dexterity sufficient to perform the required tasks, with the ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds or more with assistance.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, including RCRA, OSHA, and DOT, with a strong understanding of hazardous waste management and disposal.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and direct teams to achieve common goals.
  • Experience working with clients, with a strong ability to build and maintain relationships, and provide excellent customer service.
