By joining Experian as a Cloud Security Engineering Summer Intern, you will become part of a dynamic, global security team that safeguards the data and infrastructure that power our flagship products. You’ll gain unprecedented exposure to cutting‑edge cloud technologies, security frameworks, and real‑world threat mitigation strategies—all while working remotely from the comfort of your own space.
Role Overview – Your Mission as a Cloud Security Engineering Intern
We are seeking a motivated, technically curious, and security‑focused student to work directly under the Director of Cloud Security. This full‑time, paid internship (12‑week duration) will immerse you in Experian’s global cloud estate, where you will help champion a “security‑first” mindset across every cloud‑based workload, service, and platform.
During the summer, you will collaborate with seasoned engineers, analysts, and compliance professionals to design, implement, and validate security controls that protect sensitive data at scale. This is not a shadowing role— you will own deliverables, contribute to live projects, and see the impact of your work on production environments.
Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day
- Security‑First Advocacy: Assist in promoting a security‑first culture across the global cloud estate by developing and delivering educational content, best‑practice guides, and security awareness sessions for engineering teams.
 - Threat Modeling & Risk Assessment: Participate in threat modeling workshops to identify potential attack vectors and assess risk levels for new cloud workloads, and contribute to remediation plans.
 - Infrastructure as Code Review: Review, audit, and improve IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager) templates to ensure security controls such as encryption, least‑privilege IAM policies, and network segmentation are correctly implemented.
 - Vulnerability Management: Run automated scans using tools like AWS Inspector, Azure Security Center, and third‑party solutions; analyze findings, prioritize remediation, and document outcomes.
 - Compliance Automation: Help integrate compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI‑DSS, SOC 2, GDPR) into continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
 - Incident Response Support: Join on‑call rotations for cloud‑related security incidents, assist in root‑cause analysis, and document lessons learned to improve future defenses.
 - Collaboration & Communication: Work cross‑functionally with product, engineering, and legal/compliance teams to translate security requirements into actionable tasks.
 - Documentation & Reporting: Produce clear, concise documentation for security policies, procedures, and audit evidence that aligns with Experian’s governance standards.

Essential Qualifications – What We’re Looking For
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program (or pursuing a Master’s) in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
 - Demonstrated passion for cybersecurity evidenced by coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner).
 - Fundamental understanding of cloud computing concepts across at least one major provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) – including compute, storage, networking, and identity services.
 - Basic proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
 - Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving abilities, and an appetite for learning emerging security technologies.
 - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

 - Exposure to container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and associated security best practices.
 - Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (PCI‑DSS, SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA) and how they map to cloud environments.
 - Prior internship or co‑op experience in a security, cloud, or IT role.
