Remote Community Policy Manager – Privacy, Data Protection & Human Rights Strategy Lead for Global Platform

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-11-03

About Workwarp (and Our Partnered Global Platform)

At Workwarp, we specialize in shaping the future of work by connecting top talent with industry‑leading organizations that are redefining how people experience travel, hospitality, and digital interaction. Our flagship partnership with a world‑renowned global lodging marketplace (commonly known as Airbnb) places us at the forefront of protecting user trust, safety, and fundamental rights across millions of bookings in every corner of the globe.

Our partner’s mission is simple yet powerful: “Belong Anywhere.” To deliver on that promise, the company must continuously innovate not only its product but also the policies that safeguard privacy, ensure data security, and uphold human rights. As a Remote Community Policy Manager, you will become a critical voice in that mission, influencing how billions of guests and hosts interact safely and respectfully online.

Why This Role Matters

Privacy and human‑rights considerations are no longer “nice‑to‑have” add‑ons; they are integral to the trust fabric that holds our community together. In a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape—spanning the European Union’s GDPR, Brazil’s LGPD, California’s CCPA, China’s Personal Information Protection Law, and many more—your expertise will guide the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies that protect personal data while promoting equitable access for all users.

In this position, you will be the bridge between legal frameworks, internal product teams, external advocacy groups, and the vibrant community of hosts and guests. Your work will directly influence the company’s ability to operate responsibly, retain user confidence, and stay ahead of compliance mandates worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Development & Strategy: Lead the end‑to‑end lifecycle of privacy and human‑rights policies, from research and drafting to stakeholder review, approval, and rollout.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Continuously track global privacy and data‑protection legislation, emerging human‑rights standards, and industry best practices; translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Engineering, Legal, Communications, Trust & Safety, and Customer Experience teams to embed privacy‑by‑design and rights‑by‑design principles into new features and existing services.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with external NGOs, civil‑society groups, regulators, and academic experts to ensure policies are inclusive, transparent, and aligned with societal expectations.
  • Community Education & Advocacy: Develop clear, multilingual guidance, training modules, and communication campaigns that empower hosts and guests to understand their rights and responsibilities.
  • Incident Response & Risk Management: Serve as a subject‑matter expert during privacy incidents, data‑breach investigations, and human‑rights audits, providing strategic counsel and remediation plans.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for policy effectiveness, generate regular impact reports, and present insights to senior leadership.
  • Thought Leadership: Publish whitepapers, blog posts, and conference presentations that position the company as an industry leader in ethical data stewardship and human‑rights advocacy.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Law, Public Policy, International Relations, Human Rights, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Advanced degrees (LLM, MPH, MPA) are a distinct advantage.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience developing and implementing privacy, data‑protection, or human‑rights policies in a global‑scale technology or platform environment.
  • Regulatory Acumen: Demonstrated deep knowledge of major privacy regimes (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, PIPL, etc.) and familiarity with UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal teams across functions and external partners, including NGOs, regulators, and advocacy coalitions.
  • Communication Excellence: Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing clear policy documents, public statements, and training materials for diverse audiences.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong research and analytical abilities to dissect complex legal texts, evaluate risk, and propose pragmatic solutions.
  • Passion for Rights Protection: A genuine commitment to safeguarding user privacy and championing human rights on a global stage.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, IAPP, or equivalent).
  • Experience in the travel, hospitality, or sharing‑economy sector.
  • Fluency in multiple languages, especially Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Mandarin.
  • Background in data‑security engineering, product design, or UX research.
  • Prior involvement in corporate social responsibility (CSR) or ESG initiatives.
  • Public speaking experience at industry conferences or policy forums.

Core Skills & Competencies for Success

  • Strategic Vision: Ability to anticipate future regulatory trends and align policy roadmaps with business objectives.
  • Negotiation & Influence: Skilled at persuading diverse stakeholders and achieving consensus on complex policy matters.
  • Detail‑Oriented Execution: Meticulous attention to accuracy when drafting policies, ensuring compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Empathy & Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding of how privacy expectations vary across cultures and geographies.
  • Tech Savvy: Comfortable with data‑flow diagrams, privacy impact assessments (PIAs), and emerging privacy‑enhancing technologies (PETs).
  • Project Management: Proficiency in leading multi‑disciplinary projects, meeting deadlines, and delivering high‑quality outcomes.

Day‑to‑Day Experience

Each day is a blend of deep‑dive analysis and collaborative problem‑solving. You might start by reviewing a new data‑processing feature, mapping its impact against GDPR requirements, and drafting a privacy notice. Mid‑day could involve a video call with a European regulator to discuss upcoming changes to e‑privacy rules, followed by a workshop with product designers on embedding privacy controls into the booking flow. The afternoon may be spent preparing a briefing for senior leadership on how a recent human‑rights report influences community guidelines, and concluding with a community‑education webinar for hosts in the Asia‑Pacific region.

Impact and Success Measurement

Success in this role is measured not only by compliance checklists but by tangible improvements in user trust and community well‑being. Key metrics include:

  • Reduction in privacy‑related complaints and incidents.
  • Compliance audit scores across major jurisdictions.
  • Adoption rates of privacy training modules among hosts and internal staff.
  • Positive sentiment in public advocacy surveys and media coverage.
  • Successful integration of privacy safeguards into product releases without slowing time‑to‑market.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

Workwarp’s partnership model offers a clear pathway for upward mobility. As you demonstrate expertise, you can evolve into senior roles such as Director of Global Privacy & Human Rights, lead cross‑regional policy teams, or transition into broader ESG leadership positions. The company invests heavily in professional development—covering certifications, conference attendance, mentorship programs, and access to a global library of policy research.

Our teams celebrate diverse perspectives, encourage open dialogue, and prioritize mental health through wellness stipends, virtual meet‑ups, and robust employee resource groups (ERGs) focused on gender equality, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and cultural affinity.

  • Equity Options: Opportunity to share in the long‑term success of the marketplace platform.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision plans, plus mental‑health resources.
  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) matching (or equivalent in other regions).
  • Learning & Development: Annual stipend for certifications, courses, and conferences.
  • Remote‑Work Allowance: Home‑office setup budget, high‑speed internet reimbursement, and coworking‑space credits.
  • Generous Paid Time Off: Vacation, sick leave, and paid parental leave.
  • Global Mobility: Options to attend annual company gatherings in vibrant cities worldwide.
