About the Role
As a Special Education Teacher with our institution, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students with special needs. Key Responsibilities
- Integrated Co-Teaching: You will work alongside a general education teacher in a classroom setting with approximately 25 students, including about 10 students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Your role will involve co-planning and co-teaching lessons to ensure that all students receive the support they need to succeed.
 - Small Group Pull-Out Sessions: In addition to co-teaching, you will also lead small group pull-out sessions with no more than 8 students at a time. These sessions will focus on providing targeted support and instruction to students who require additional assistance.
 - Lesson Planning and Preparation: You will be responsible for planning and preparing lessons that cater to the diverse needs of your students. This will involve developing and implementing strategies to support students with varying learning styles, abilities, and needs.
 - Assessment and Progress Monitoring: You will work closely with other educators to assess student progress, identify areas of strength and weakness, and develop strategies to support student growth and development.
 - Collaboration and Communication: Effective communication and collaboration with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders will be essential in this role. You will be expected to maintain open lines of communication, provide regular progress updates, and work collaboratively to ensure that students receive comprehensive support.
 
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must possess the following qualifications:
- NYS Special Education Certification: You must hold a valid New York State special education certification that covers grade 7 and above (grades 7-12, grades K-12, or grades 1-6 with an extension).
 - Experience and Expertise: While not mandatory, experience working in special education, particularly in an integrated co-teaching setting, is highly desirable. You should have a strong understanding of special education principles, practices, and regulations.
 - Education and Training: A bachelor's degree in special education or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in areas such as autism, behavioral support, or assistive technology may be advantageous.
 - Skills and Competencies: You should possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. The ability to work collaboratively, think creatively, and adapt to changing circumstances is essential.
