Position Overview – What You’ll Do Every Day

As a Remote Medical Transcriptionist – Psychiatric Services, you will be the bridge between spoken clinical notes and the definitive electronic health record (EHR). Your work will directly support the psychiatric departments of UKHC, ensuring that every patient encounter is accurately documented, searchable, and ready for billing, research, and care coordination.

Core Responsibilities

  • Transcribe physician dictations into clear, grammatically correct, and HIPAA‑compliant medical reports, with a focus on psychiatric assessments, medication management notes, discharge summaries, and progress notes.
  • Validate and edit transcribed documents to ensure fidelity to the original dictation, correct medical terminology, and adherence to UKHC’s style guides and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, nurses, and administrative staff via secure messaging and phone calls to clarify ambiguous language, resolve missing information, and confirm medication dosages.
  • Maintain rigorous data quality by performing routine audits, cross‑checking patient identifiers, and flagging potential discrepancies for review.
  • Manage workflow efficiently using UKHC’s transcription management system (3M) and Microsoft Office Suite, ensuring timely turnaround that meets departmental Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding promptly to internal requests, maintaining a professional demeanor, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stay current with medical terminology, especially in psychiatry, by engaging in ongoing education, reading clinical literature, and participating in internal training sessions.
