With a legacy dating back to 1844, The Y has grown into a nationwide network of programs, facilities, and dedicated professionals who share a common mission: building a better future through wellness, youth development, and social responsibility. Our Cheyenne location serves as a vibrant hub for fitness enthusiasts, families, and newcomers alike, and we are looking for a passionate, service‑driven individual to join us as a Remote Fitness Attendant & Wellness Coach.

Why This Role Is a Game‑Changer

Imagine a position where you greet members virtually, inspire them to try new classes, and help them navigate their personal fitness journeys—all while working from the comfort of your own home. This role provides you with the perfect blend of frontline member interaction, program promotion, and hands‑on fitness expertise. You’ll work directly with our Program Director and seasoned fitness professionals, gaining mentorship that can launch or accelerate a career in the wellness industry.

Key Responsibilities – What Your Day Will Look Like

As a Remote Fitness Attendant & Wellness Coach, you will be the digital frontline of our Cheyenne YMCA. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Member Greeting & Connection: Welcome new and existing members via phone, video chat, or email. Introduce them to staff, share success stories, and foster a sense of community.
  • Program & Class Promotion: Assess members’ goals and recommend relevant classes, personal training packages, and wellness workshops. Provide clear, compelling descriptions of each offering.
  • Smart Start & Orientation Sessions: Lead virtual “Smart Start” onboarding sessions for new members, walking them through facility policies, safety protocols, and how to make the most of their membership.
  • Facility Oversight (Remote Coordination): Partner with on‑site staff to ensure the fitness floor remains tidy, equipment is organized, and safety standards are upheld. Communicate any issues promptly.
  • Administrative Support: Handle member inquiries, process class sign‑ups, update digital records, and assist with scheduling for trainers and special events.
  • Substitute Coverage: Step in as a virtual substitute instructor or greeter when needed, ensuring continuity of service during staff absences.
  • Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Participate in internal trainings, complete required certifications, and stay current with industry trends in strength & conditioning, kinesiology, and wellness coaching.

Essential Qualifications – The Core of Success

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate reliability, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to helping others achieve their health goals. The essential qualifications include:

  • Minimum age of 16 years at the time of hire.
  • Self‑motivated, dependable, and able to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Professional demeanor: alert, courteous, and tactful in all communications.
  • Ability to serve as a substitute greeter or virtual instructor on an as‑needed basis.
  • Current ARC/YMCA First Aid, CPR, and Blood‑Borne Pathogen certifications, or willingness to obtain them within 30 days of hire (training provided).
  • Flexible availability for weekday, evening, and weekend shifts; full coverage of all shifts is not required.

Preferred Qualifications – What Sets You Apart

While not mandatory, the following experiences and credentials will make your application stand out:

  • Background or ongoing interest in strength and conditioning, personal training, or kinesiology.
  • Previous experience in a customer‑service or member‑engagement role, especially in a health‑or‑fitness setting.
  • Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and basic CRM systems.
  • Certification from recognized bodies such as ACE, NASM, or ISSA.
  • Experience leading group fitness classes or wellness workshops, even on a volunteer basis.

Skills & Competencies – The Tools in Your Toolbox

To thrive in this role, you should possess a blend of interpersonal, technical, and organizational skills:

  • Communication: Clear, warm, and persuasive oral and written communication to inspire members.
  • Active Listening: Ability to understand members’ needs, motivations, and barriers, then tailor recommendations accordingly.
  • Tech‑Savvy: Comfort navigating digital platforms for scheduling, member records, and virtual meetings.
  • Time Management: Efficiently balance multiple tasks, shifted schedules, and occasional urgent requests.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactively address member concerns, equipment issues, or scheduling conflicts.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with on‑site staff, program directors, and trainers to deliver a seamless experience.
  • Wellness Knowledge: Basic understanding of fitness principles, nutrition basics, and health‑promotion strategies.
