The position reports directly to the Pharmacy Manager and works under the guidance of the Vice President of Pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Member Assistance: Guide members through the refill process, coordinate with prescriber offices for additional authorizations, and provide clear, compassionate explanations of benefit coverage.
  • Regulatory & Audit Participation: Assist with internal and external audits (including CMS and other regulatory agencies), prepare required documentation, and help maintain compliance with all applicable standards.
  • Report Generation: Draft routine performance reports, Explanation of Benefits (EOB) summaries, rebate analyses, and transition documentation for PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) oversight.
  • PBM Communication: Serve as a point of contact for the contracted PBM to process prior authorizations, overrides, and resolve third‑party rejections; ensure timely communication of decisions back to members and internal teams.
  • Formulary Inquiries: Respond to questions from physicians, members, and pharmacies about formulary status, coverage limitations, and therapeutic alternatives.
  • Data Management: Retrieve, verify, and document accurate drug information, maintain confidential member records in compliance with HIPAA, and support statistical reporting initiatives.
  • Collaboration with Internal Departments: Work closely with compliance, clinical, and operations teams to align pharmacy programs with CMS criteria and company quality goals.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify workflow inefficiencies, suggest process enhancements, and participate in special projects aimed at elevating the member experience.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the Pharmacy department’s strategic objectives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education & Licensure: High school diploma or equivalent; Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience: 2–3 years of pharmacy‑related experience, including at least one year focused on generating healthcare pharmacy reports and data analysis.

  • Organizational Acumen: Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and proven record of maintaining precise documentation.
  • Problem‑Solving Capacity: Logical reasoning, ability to interpret pharmacy regulations, and capacity to follow detailed instructions with minimal supervision.

Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have) Skills

  • Experience with CMS reporting requirements and prior authorization workflows.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA privacy rules and best practices for secure data handling.
  • Previous exposure to remote or hybrid work environments, demonstrating self‑discipline and time‑management abilities.
  • Customer‑service background in a health‑care setting, showcasing empathy and patience.
  • Advanced Excel capabilities (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros) for data manipulation and analysis.
