Mgr, Systems Engineering
About the position
Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and direction to engineers on technologies, best practices, and career development.
• Oversee all technical operations to maintain the integrity and stability of CPE ecosystems.
• Guide the ongoing implementation of operational analytics, monitoring, and reporting of CPE platforms.
• Provide 'on-call' leadership support and response to CPE platform issues after normal business hours.
• Coordinate preparation of the capital and operating budget process and monitor activity throughout the year to ensure capital and operating expenses are controlled according to the budgeted plan.
• Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum six (6) years of Systems Engineering experience.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straightforward, and professional manner.
• Ability to provide effective, results-oriented direction and make sound decisions while under pressure.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and simultaneously manage several projects and initiatives effectively.
• Skilled at providing coaching, guidance, mentoring, and motivation whenever necessary.
• Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting tools (i.e., tcpdump, netstat, iostat, traceroute, snoop).
• Advanced ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications.
Nice-to-haves
• Working knowledge of Linux/Unix operating system and command line interface.
• Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN topology, network protocols, switches, and firewalls.
• Fundamental understanding of carrier-grade systems architecture, design, and security.
• Working knowledge with System monitoring applications (Splunk, DataDog, OP5, CloudWatch, etc.).
• Advanced understanding of LAN/WAN topology, network protocols (TCP/IP, FTP, NFS), switches, and firewalls.
• Working knowledge of the DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and TFTP protocols.
• Advanced ability to conduct design sessions to specify solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality.
• Advanced ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures.
• Working knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools.
• Working knowledge of OSS applications and software.
• In-depth knowledge of choosing the appropriate lifecycle and the planning, monitoring and control of the systems engineering process.
• Strong ability to transform an operational need into a description of system parameters and incorporate those parameters in the control of the total system development to achieve an optimum, cost-effective balance of all system elements.
