Position Title & Overview:

As an SRE Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of skilled Site Reliability Engineers to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our infrastructure and applications. You will play a critical role in driving the development and implementation of best practices, guiding the team in optimizing our systems, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. This role requires technical expertise, leadership abilities, and strong communication skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of Site Reliability Engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and career development opportunities
  • Define and drive the strategic vision for the SRE team, aligning it with the company's goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams, product managers, and stakeholders to establish and maintain service level objectives (SLOs) and service level indicators (SLIs) for critical systems
  • Establish and enforce best practices for building and operating highly available and scalable systems
  • Oversee incident management processes, including incident response, post-incident reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Drive the implementation and enhancement of observability and monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve performance and availability issues
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize application performance, improve deployment processes, and ensure efficient resource utilization
  • Lead capacity planning efforts to support business growth and anticipated traffic demands
  • Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and knowledge sharing within the SRE team and across the organization
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact and relevance to the company's infrastructure and operations
Requirements

Location:
  • Applicants must be based in the United States
You Have:
  • 7+ years of experience maintaining scalable, complex, large-scale, customer facing web services
  • 3+ years of experience leading technical/engineering talent
  • Proven experience managing and leading a team of Site Reliability Engineers or similar roles
  • Deep understanding of cloud technologies and experience with AWS
  • Strong knowledge of software development principles and experience with programming or scripting languages
  • Expertise in designing and operating large-scale, highly available, and distributed systems
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Proficiency in implementing infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools
  • Solid understanding of monitoring, observability, and logging tools and best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment
  • Availability for occasional on-call responsibilities and off-hours incident management
  • Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and practices
  • Experience working on a distributed/remote team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Nice to haves:
  • Advanced certifications in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer)
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Previous experience in a high-traffic, customer-facing web service environment
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and related patterns
  • Experience with incident management tools (e.g., PagerDuty, VictorOps)
  • Demonstrated track record of driving technical initiatives and process improvements
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a focus on fostering a positive and inclusive work environment
