This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy construction and street maintenance equipment.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
High School Diploma or GED.Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.Possession of a Class B CDL license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a state-certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITIONKnowledge of how to operate and perform minor maintenance on assigned equipment.Knowledge of city, department and safety rules and regulations.Knowledge of city geography, including streets and rights-of-way.Skill in defensive driving techniques.Skill in operating various pieces of heavy and light equipment.Skill in using various hand and power tools.Skill in performing road construction and maintenance duties.Skill in pesticide and herbicide application.SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Street Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor reviews work in progress and upon completion for compliance with established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, safety guidelines, traffic laws, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY The work consists of related duties in heavy equipment operation. Inclement weather, equipment failure, and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the work. SCOPE AND EFFECTThe purpose of this position is to operate heavy equipment used in street repair and maintenance. Successful performance helps ensure streets, drainage ditches, and rights-of-way are safe and properly maintained.PERSONAL CONTACTSContacts are typically with co-workers, city employees, and the general public.PURPOSE OF CONTACTSContacts are typically to exchange information and provide services.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is typically performed while sitting in a vehicle for extended periods of time, with intermittent standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYNone
