Underwriter Intern
Posted 2025-04-21The Underwriter Intern is an introductory level underwriter, usually a college student with limited prior professional experience, and is anticipated to require ongoing supervision. This job is responsible for performing basic underwriting functions under approved guidelines for routine / less complicated cases. The responsibilities of this job include learning and applying underwriting concepts and the business of Delta Dental to make sound risk and financial decisions regarding Delta's commercial book of business.
? We are hiring 2 Underwriter Interns.
This role requires this person to work full-time during the summer months. This role will run approximately March-August 2025. Full-time hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm or 9am-6pm. This person may work part-time during the school semester.
Gain hands-on experience in risk assessment and pricing strategies while working alongside industry professionals in a dynamic underwriting environment.
What You'll Do:
? Conduct comprehensive experience analyses to assess risk and determine competitive rates for smaller or less complex cases.
? Collaborate with underwriting professionals through the peer review process, gaining insights and refining analytical skills.
? Advise and guide sales teams and internal stakeholders by providing clear underwriting rationale and strategic recommendations.
Program Details:
? Part-time work during the school semester, transitioning to full-time hours over the summer (March?August 2025).
? Full-time schedule: Monday?Friday, 8 AM?5 PM or 9 AM?6 PM.

? Candidate should be enrolled in Bachelor's program in Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or similar course of study in their Sophomore, Junior or beginning of Senior year.

? Intermediate communication skills, written and verbal, are required.

Base Pay Information
The national base pay range is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental?s assessment of the candidate?s knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. $46,359 - $93,100
