Our Small Commercial New Business team is currently seeking an Underwriting Manager in our Great Lakes region.
This is a full time, exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Small Commercial Underwriting Manager is an experienced manager that demonstrates mastery of leadership, financial acumen, strategy development and execution. The Underwriting manager is expected to have broad influence/impact and can create followership amongst field and senior leadership. They are viewed as the owner and thought leader of their business. The Underwriting manager also plays a role in developing and mentoring talent, including other managers.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
? Demonstrate expert knowledge of Small Commercial strategies, products, and capabilities as well as demonstrate a familiarity of other Hanover franchise capabilities. Is viewed as a consultative resource in support of driving Small CL strategies.
? Use the underwriting referral process as an effective development tool to expand the skillset of staff.
? Establish a culture of mentorship and coaching across their organization.
? Show the ability to change thinking of or gain acceptance from others in sensitive situations without damaging relationships and be highly consultative with team and constituents.
? Show the ability to negotiate mutually beneficial solutions both internally and externally, keeping The Hanover?s best interest in front.
? Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority and have developed a high level of confidence in their underwriting/business decision-making. Able to successfully influence those above them. Accountable for achievement of results.
? Have strong working relationships with critical constituents ? including RVP, RSD, Operations Leadership, home office, and New/ Renewal partners
? Co-lead State Management, including playbook development, rate reviews, and development of underwriting strategy.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
? 8 to 10 year?s commercial underwriting experience.
? Undergraduate or advanced degree preferred.
? CPCU or CIC designation preferred
? Technical knowledge of commercial lines insurance business including lines of coverage, risk selection, methodologies, and pricing
? Demonstrated evidence of success in managing operations and staff within an underwriting function
? Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills required.
