Accountant I
Posted 2025-04-22Under general supervision, performs professional level accounting and analysis work of moderate level difficulty; reconciles various accounts and creates/enters journal vouchers.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
? Responsible for multiple bank reconciliations; reconciles certain balance sheet activity and provides detailed analysis of reconciling items; assists other departments with account reconciliation issues.
? Reviews and prepares requests for journal voucher entries; enters adjustments into the accounting system.
? Assists with compilation of the annual financial report for the University.
? Communicates with students, parents, staff, and others in course of performing work or coordinating tasks.
? Assists the Student Accounts Office and Accounts Payable Office as needed. Helps answer phones.
? Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
? Knowledge of basic general ledger accounting practices and procedures;
? Knowledge of State financial reporting requirements and guidelines;
? Knowledge of fund accounting and ability to reconcile financial or budget records;
? Knowledge of the operation of personal computers and the use of word processing and spreadsheet software with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel;
? Ability to perform mathematical calculations and accounting entries in an accurate manner;
? Ability to organize work and complete tasks requiring accuracy and attention to detail in an accurate and timely manner;
? Ability to learn and operate within multiple software systems;
? Ability to work independently for significant periods of time.
? Skilled in oral and written communication, listening skills, and interpersonal relations;
? Skilled in problem solving;
? Skilled in a commitment to customer service;
? Skilled in accounting and financial systems
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required. One to
three years professional level accounting experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Accounting degree preferred. Banner ERP and Higher Ed experience
preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred.
