The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I has knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.
Duke Energy is looking to fill a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) Engineer position in our Carolinas Dispatchable Generation (CDG) Regional Services Engineering. As a HRSG Engineer, you will, periodically, travel to power plants across the Carolinas and perform inspections and diagnostics on HRSG equipment.
Responsibilities
 Identify HRSG issues during regular inspections: Look for signs of corrosion, cracking, or general component degradation
 Periodically evaluate HRSG performance and identify areas for improvement
 Review historical data and consult with plant personnel to identify issues
 Recommend corrective actions and repairs, including retrofit options
 Offer technical advice on safety, reliability, and performance
 Assist stations with outage planning and lay-up procedures
 Analyze flow distribution problems and cycling issues.
 Perform failure analysis to determine the cause of any emergent events
Basic/Required Qualifications
 Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
 Experience assessing and maintaining HRSGs
 Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
 Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
 Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
 Good written and oral communication skills.
 Capable of learning quickly, working independently and in a team environment
 Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
 Knowledgeable in thermal performance
 Understanding of basic principles of project management.
 Experience in the utility industry.
 Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple assignments
Working Conditions
 Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Carolinas Duke Energy facility.
Specific Requirements
