Light Equipment Operator

Under immediate supervision will perform mi-skilled labor in the maintenance of City parks and City properties. Responsible to mow City properties, right of ways, and easements.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
? Operate complex machinery and/or equipment including tractors, and mowers.
? Cut and remove brush, grass, timber, and other debris from streets, drainage structures, and other city property.
? Responsible for maintenance and minor repair of equipment.
? Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.
? Serve on standby crew for after hour emergency work as required; does minor carpentry work, painting, and concrete work.
? Keep storage areas neat and clean.
? Maintain golf course.
? Maintain irrigation systems.
? Assist other City divisions with regard to City facilities and equipment.
? Flexible schedule.
? Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma with no minimum experience required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
? Knowledge of city, state, federal regulations pertaining to the operation of equipment in public spaces.
? Ability to demonstrate proper technique and use of a variety of hand tools and power tools.
? Knowledge of mechanical, proper care, and skillful/safe operation of equipment.
? Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, read addresses, directions, and signs.
Physical Requirements:
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as heavy work involving lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
? Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
? Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
? Visual ability: sufficient to effectively operate office equipment including copier, computer, etc.; and to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
? Hearing ability: sufficient to hold a conversation with other individuals both in person and over a telephone; and to hear recording on transcription device.
? Speaking ability: sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over the telephone.
? Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
? Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
? Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
? Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee?s physical presence at the workplace.
