GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Police Sergeant, this position is responsible for the receipt, documentation, logging, processing, and storage of all incoming property and evidence. This position is responsible for preserving all property and evidence as it is received, maintaining it in a secure environment for the lawful release or disposing of it. This position is responsible for maintaining a chain of custody of the entire process that is accurate and complete, satisfying any court's requirement.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Ensures that incoming property and evidence is packaged in accordance with agency guidelines. ? Preserves all incoming property and evidence from contamination, theft, or loss; maintains and updates documentation with tracking information commonly known as the "chain of custody". ? Enters necessary data into the property unit tracking system (automated or manual system as provided and directed); operates property management software and information systems, as directed. ? Ensures all releases and dispositions of property and evidence are legal and accurately documented. ? Arranges and documents interim releases and return of evidence for court, crime lab analysis, or investigative use. ? Prepares and forwards property-related forms to requesting units and agencies. ? Serves as the liaison for property and evidence matters between the agency and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. ? Provides maintenance of the storage facility. ? Inventories property and evidence based on policies and procedures demands of the agency. ? Ensures all efforts are taken to make the property unit as safe as possible for employees as well as property/evidence. ? Stores property/evidence in the designated storage area(s). Limits access to the Property Room to authorized individual(s) only and maintains access logs. Ensures there is adequate security for the Property Room.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: ? Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent. ? Two (2) years of experience in property and evidence maintenance, record keeping, administrative, police support or related field. ? Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above. ? Has not been convicted of a Class ?B? misdemeanor within the last ten years or any offense greater than a Class ?B?. ? Must be able to testify in Municipal, County, State, and Federal Court. ? Pass a background investigation and Security Threat Assessment which includes criminal and driving records checks. ? Pass a truth verification examination and/or polygraph. ? Pass a medical physical examination and drug test. ? Possession of a valid Class C driver?s license.
