The Gift Planning Officer at the American Red Cross is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to secure planned gifts that support the organization's mission. This role focuses on cultivating relationships with donors and prospects in the New York City area, enhancing the Legacy Society, and providing training on gift planning. The position is remote and requires collaboration with various stakeholders to promote the Red Cross as the charity of choice for planned giving.
Responsibilities
? Develop and manage the gift planning strategy for a portfolio of prospects throughout the Regions.

? Lead and implement strategies to grow membership of the Legacy Society.

? Maintain and enhance a stewardship program for all planned giving donors.
,
? Raise and enhance the profile of the Legacy Society.

? Deliver training on gift planning to advance knowledge and foster opportunities in gift conversations.

? Stay current in gift planning trends and fundraising techniques by attending meetings and conferences.

? Provide technical assistance to the Region's development team to increase fundraising capacity.
,
? Cooperate with local financial planning and estate planning associations to maximize the Red Cross's position as the charity of choice for bequests and trusts.

? Support the reporting of all estate documents to the Office of General Counsel.

? Communicate regularly with the Director of Gift Planning about donor and gift activity.

? Utilize development prospect management system for reporting donor and gift activity.
Requirements
? Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience required; advanced degree preferred.
,
? Minimum of five years in major gift or gift planning fundraising with successful cultivating and soliciting experience preferred.

? Experience promoting and managing gift planning programs is highly desirable.
,
? Knowledge of planned giving vehicles and fundraising principles in a large organization is desired.

? Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation and negotiation skills.
,
? Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
,
? Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in difficult situations is essential.
,
? Knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary.
,
? Training in PG Calc or Crescendo planned giving software is desirable.
,
? Familiarity with Red Cross corporate culture is preferred.
Nice-to-haves
? Significant gift-planning experience in the NYC market.

? Certification in CF or related areas is highly preferred.
