The Librarian Specialist position at the Florida Department of State involves professional work within the Division of Library and Information Services. The role is primarily responsible for providing complex reference and research services to state agency personnel and the general public. This includes conducting intricate online searches across multiple database services to retrieve bibliographic citations and full-text articles on various subjects as requested by patrons. The Librarian Specialist will assist users in navigating their research by directing them to multiple sources and collections, utilizing materials in all formats from all collections, and maintaining appropriate statistics regarding the usage of the collection. In addition to reference services, the Librarian Specialist is responsible for the maintenance of the Federal Documents Collection. This includes directing assigned staff in processing documents, adding information to the catalog, and managing the claiming, weeding, and binding of the collection. The role also involves generating reports, surveys, and correspondence with the Government Printing Office, as well as serving as the State Data Center Coordinator for the U.S. Census Bureau. The Librarian Specialist will schedule activities for the Reference Unit, act as the Ask-A-Librarian coordinator, and participate in the proposal, development, and implementation of policies and practices for the reference unit. Furthermore, the position requires promoting library services through presentations, webinars, tours, and other targeted communications, while also participating in area federal depository activities. The position requires a strong knowledge of library and information science principles, practices, and procedures, as well as experience in providing reference and research services. The ability to evaluate and make recommendations regarding the selection of library materials and equipment is essential. The Librarian Specialist must also be proficient with integrated library systems and various computer applications, capable of performing extended data entry, and able to lift and process boxes of books weighing up to 20 pounds. The role may also require bending, reaching to shelve materials, climbing and descending stairs, and pushing loaded book trucks. A Level 2 criminal background check is a condition of employment, and selected candidates must provide fingerprints for this purpose.

Requirements
? Six years of direct work experience or a master's degree in library science, information studies, or a related field.

? A minimum of one (1) year of library experience is preferred.

? Experience providing reference and research services to library users.

? Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of library and information science.

? Ability to evaluate and make recommendations about the selection of library material and equipment.
