Summer Library Assistant (June-August)Department: Library Reports To: Youth Services Manager; Adult Services Manager Supervisory Responsibilities: No Safety Sensitive: No Classification: Seasonal Part Time; Non-ExemptDriving Status: No Work Environment: Busy library environment Summary The Summer Library Assistant works closely with coworkers and management to support the Summer Reading Program (SRP). This role is seasonal in nature, beginning in June and ending in August.Essential FunctionsExplain the SRP to patrons and distribute reading logsAssist patrons with program registrationSet up tables and chairs for programsAssist program performers with set up and checking in registrantsPrepare craft materials and suppliesCollect reading logs from patrons who completed the SRP and distribute prizesPerform basic circulation functions including checking materials inEmpty book dropsSort materials in preparation for shelvingShelve library materials Scheduling flexibility based on the needs of the businessMaintain consistent and reliable attendance for scheduled shiftsPerform other duties as assigned by managementOther FunctionsPerform readers advisory for patrons based on age, interest, and reading levelPromote literacy, intellectual freedom, and equal access to informationRecord statistics as directed by managementEnforce the Library's Code of Conduct PolicyReport safety concerns to managementPhysical RequirementsAbility to complete keyboard entry Ability to talk, hear, and seeAbility to lift 30 lbs., push carts weighing 50 pounds, and shelve materials on high and low shelvesAbility to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittentlyCompetenciesAbility to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the libraryAbility to adjust to changing prioritiesMust enjoy working with children, tweens, teens, familiesAbility to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentCommitment to delivering excellent customer serviceAbility to perform tasks accuratelyProficient in Microsoft OfficeExcellent written and oral communication skillsMaintain confidentiality and ethical behavior in all library mattersRequired Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalentPreferred Education and ExperienceLibrary experience Work with children, tweens, and teens Ability to speak a language in addition to English Additional Eligibility RequirementsAbility to pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
