About the position

The Sports Information & Communication Specialist at Florida State University plays a crucial role in the Department of Athletics by managing the communication and public relations for assigned sports, specifically Men and Women's Swimming and Diving and Baseball. This position is responsible for writing and distributing daily and weekly press releases, ensuring that all deadlines are met to allow media and game broadcast personnel ample time to prepare for upcoming events. The specialist will produce and execute comprehensive social media plans tailored for the assigned sports, serving as the main point of contact for producers, directors, on-air talent, and visiting public relations personnel during events and games broadcast on various platforms including radio, television, and streaming services. In addition to media relations, the specialist will handle all player and coach interview requests, acting as the sole media contact. They will also be responsible for the publication of a media guide or record book, which must be completed prior to the start of the sports' main season. This role requires collaboration with the marketing and sales office to produce game programs or similar publications, ensuring all deadlines are met. The specialist will develop, publicize, and promote feature story ideas to local, national, and hometown media, leveraging relationships with local media members to assist the marketing department in implementing their strategies. Continuous professional development is essential, and the specialist is expected to attend conferences and university-sponsored lectures to enhance their skills and knowledge in public relations, particularly in new technologies relevant to the field. Additionally, the role involves producing and assigning media credentials for assigned sports, maintaining statistics, records, and photos for archival purposes, and ensuring that all information is updated on the website and shared hard drives.

Responsibilities

Requirements
? Bachelor's degree and three years of experience, including one year related to sports journalism, or a high school diploma and seven years of related experience.
