About the position

The Technical Writer at Florida State University is responsible for creating high-quality documentation and communication materials that enhance the user experience and support the success of university IT services. This role involves translating complex technical concepts into engaging and understandable content for both technical and non-technical users, preparing training materials, and assisting with organizational change management efforts. The Technical Writer collaborates with various stakeholders to develop useful content and ensures that documentation adheres to established guidelines.

Responsibilities
? Research, outline, write, and edit technical documentation to help users understand ITS services.

? Manage existing IT Support FAQs and documentation, ensuring content is single-sourced across multiple materials.

? Create and maintain user guides, FAQs, and modern user aids such as online videos and infographics.
,
? Consult with service offering managers and subject matter experts to test documentation for accuracy.
,
? Adhere to technical writing and style guidelines for consistent voice across documentation.
,
? Continuously update and refine content to align with changing digital products and procedures.
,
? Coordinate and document organizational change management efforts and implement training plans.
,
? Develop training strategies and content, including videos and web resources, to support ITS initiatives.
,
? Conduct face-to-face and online training sessions, including workshops and roadshows.
,
? Develop best practices and optimizations for technical documentation and content generation.
,
? Document internal operating procedures and recommend process improvements.
,
? Create and maintain templates for written documentation.
,
? Write and edit content for various communication channels, including website, email, and social media.
,
? Lead development and distribution of communications about ITS service interruptions and maintenance.
,
? Maintain the ITS service status system and post incident updates to relevant channels.

Requirements
? Bachelor's degree or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in technical writing or related field.

? Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in editing and proofreading.
,
? Ability to understand and interpret technical terminology and convey it to diverse audiences.
,
? Exceptional attention to detail and methodical organization of information.

? Problem-solving approach with effective decision-making skills.

? Outstanding customer service skills.
