- Maintains documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures. Observes, records and reports physical and behavioral response to medication and treatment.
- Uses nursing process for ongoing care of individuals as need is identified. Intervention would include, but not be limited to observation, referral to the registered nurse (RN), and/or the Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), medication and treatment as prescribed and/or crisis intervention.
- Maintains work area, medical supplies, and equipment, and adheres to infection control policies.
- Accompanies individuals to clinic and off-center appointments as assigned.
- Provides emergency nursing service within the scope of nursing practice.
- Provides nursing care and administers treatment as directed by a registered nurse to subacute, chronic, and convalescent residents.
- Assists a RN and/or a LIP in clinics, diagnostic tests and physical examinations by preparing clinic room for use, collecting routine specimens, taking and recording temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure.
- Prepares and administers hypodermic injections as ordered by the attending LIP.
- Performs simple rehabilitative nursing procedures for selected chronically ill and aged residents.
- Assists a RN with screening procedures.
- Assists LIP with physical examinations.
- Assists RN in completing and maintaining medical records and residents' progress.
- Complete Section II of the DDC Incident Report Form by providing a detailed description of the injury (size, shape, color, location on the body).
- Indicate the treatment given and the plan of care.
- Establish the Type of Incident and Level of Injury.
- Take two (2) sets of photos and complete the Photographic Wound Documentation form.
- Ensure the Florida Abuse Hotline is contacted if abuse, neglect, exploitation, mishandling, mistreatment or sexual abuse/activity is witnessed, known or suspected.
- Forward the Incident Report Form to the supervisor/in-charge staff for further action.
- As warranted, comply and assist authorized investigators from APD and other agencies, such as law enforcement, DCF Adult Protective Services, Medicaid Fraud Unit, and the Agency for Healthcare Administration.
- Participates as appropriate in all objectives developed for the individuals assigned.
- Works in conjunction with the registered nurse to assure continuity of care and adherence to ICF/DD standards.
- Attends interdisciplinary team meetings and special clinics as assigned.
- Participates in and reinforces health care teaching to assure adherence to current principles of care as ordered.
- Attends in-service training and participates in continuing education programs for the developmentally disabled person.
- Monitors and role models infection control programs during daily activities.
- Adheres to ethical practice standards.
- Participates in nursing committees as assigned.
- Performs other related duties.
- A valid Florida Driver's License.
- If hired with an out-of-state license a valid Florida State driver's license must be obtained within 30 days.
- Corrective Lenses Restricted license are acceptable provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating a state vehicle.
- Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
- Must be willing to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the Agency.
- Must maintain active practical nurse license that allows practical nursing services in the State of Florida.
- Must maintain certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Must complete annual health screening.
- Must be willing and able to provide “hands-on” assistance to residents with activities of daily living to include: personal hygiene and grooming, such as bathing, toileting, and dressing.
